Maybe you have a slab of wood in your shed that wants to become a beautiful shelf, or you want to start a new hobby, learning skills as you create awesome pieces. 101 covers the safe operation of the core tools in the Hub woodshop while taking students through basic woodworking theory. The tools covered in this class include the bandsaw, mitre saw, table saw, drill press, belt sander, jointer, planer, and smaller hand tools.

Students will learn basic tool operation and safety, but will not complete a project.

Prior woodworking experience is not necessary, but students must be comfortable with handling power tools in a shop environment. This orientation is a great segue into our 102 class where we use all the skills to build a small project, go deeper into woodworking theory, and learn a few new techniques.

We recommend that students bring their own safety glasses for comfort, but have extras if needed.
